Years from strategy to screen

How I work

Before I open Figma.

Strategy and research are not preamble. They are the work.

01 — STRATEGIC

Understand the business first.

I start with the business model, the CEO's vision, and the market. Before any design decision I need to understand what success looks like for the company and for the user.

02 — RESEARCH

Find the human truth.

I conduct real user research, one-on-one interviews, empathy mapping, pattern recognition. I find the insight that everything should be built on. This step cannot be skipped.

03 — EXECUTION

Prototype, test, ship.

I prototype fast, test rigorously with real users, and iterate until the solution is right, moving from insight to screen with precision and protecting the human truth all the way to launch.

TutorBright

Toronto, Canada, Founder Pixel People Co., Jan 2014 to Dec 2017

"I just want my child to be happy."
Shared across all 3 parent segments unprompted. It became the strategic foundation for the entire redesign and the Tutor Mentor repositioning.
  • Conducted interviews with 5 families across 3 parent segments using one-on-one interviews, screen recordings, ethnographic research, affinity mapping, empathy maps, journey maps, and POV statements.
  • Mapped full parent journey from Google search to booking, identifying need for visible phone number, frictionless booking CTA, trust signals above the fold, and city-specific SEO pages.
  • Proposed Tutor Mentor repositioning, differentiating TutorBright from skill-only competitors like Kumon by emphasizing mentorship and whole-child development.
  • Returned prototypes to original research participants for usability testing before launch, validating booking flow, trust signals, and navigation.

Mirna Mortada

Creative Director and UX Strategist

I design from strategy to screen. Before opening Figma I immerse myself in the business model, the CEO's vision, and deep user research, finding the human truth that everything should be built on.

10+ years building from scratch in startup environments, at Zyper (acquired by Discord), DataSwift (Cambridge), Pearmill, and through Pixel People Co. Scaled a business to 58 cities, contributed to two acquisitions, and grew a publication to 3,000 daily readers.

Drawn to AI products that serve human wellbeing, specifically designing emotionally intelligent technology that feels safe, trustworthy, and genuinely human to a real person in a vulnerable moment. That is the design problem I have spent my career solving.
